New statistics about childhood cancer

I found these statistics about childhood cancer the other day and coming from a mom who's child had cancer I knew that there was a great need for research but some of these statistics shocked me.

  • Number o children who will get cancer: 1 in 300 with that going up at least 4-6% every year
  • Number of children who will not survive: 1 in 4
  • Number of children diagnosed with cancer every day: 46
  • Number oc children who die from cancer every day: 7
  • Number of children currently fighting cancer: 35,000
  • Number of new drugs developed for childhood cancer in the past 25 years: 1 (yikes!)
  • The only age group with declining survival rates: 15-22 year olds
  • Percentage of cancer research money spent on childhood cancers: 3% (ouch!)
  • Age group (other than 70+) with the highest cancer fatality rate: Teenagers
  • Age group with the most advanced cancer at the time of diagnosis: Teenagers
  • Age group with the highest number of life long chemo side effects: 15-22 year olds
  • The most under represented age group in clinical trials: 15-19 year olds

Won't you help me bring awareness to childhood cancer by visiting Beads of Hope®.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

If you are like me you don't know anything about childhood cancer until your family is hit hard with it.  As you know my son was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on his third birthday.  Up until that point I had no idea the pain, trauma, and side effects that our children expeience when they are diagnosed with cancer.  To make matters worse they are children who haven't even had a chance to expeirence life yet they must instantly grow up and learn things that no child should ever know.  Unfortunately it is the world we live in.  Sadly though there hasn't been a new drug developed for over 20 years to help fight childhood cancer.

So I am pleading for your help to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer.  Visit Beads of Hope® to purchase our jewelry, we donate a portion of all proceeds to childhood cancer research, or check out our childhood cancer resources page there are some great organizations that we have dealt with that. You can even donate to your local children's hospital.  I am sure they have  a cancer center where children are involved in clinical studies.  I know Jakob did his part by being involved in a clinical study.  One way or another we need to raise more money for research.

If we band together as a nation we can tell the world we want to put an end to this horrible disease so no child will have to suffer from cancer.

Make sure you are watching this blog there is an awesome sale that is coming up next month in honor of childhood cancer awareness month.

Until next time,

Absolute Dignity

Allow me to introduce a wonderful friend and associate. You see I met Kathy when I talked to her about carrying my jewelry in her store. She gladly agreed and we have developed a wonderful friendship since then. Kathy will be one of the 5 ambassadors on the Cheerios Boxes that will come out in October for Breast Cancer awareness.

So make sure you grab at least 1 box if not more. Lets put an end to all cancers.

Fun on the farm

We had so much fun today. We went up to mom & dads to help them with some yard work. My long time friend Marlene went with us and had a blast snapping pictures all over the farm. Enjoy seeing what she took.

We then grilled some of the best steaks and enjoyed the company without a care in the world. Of course time went by way to fast. But it was nice to not worry about Jakob and all his side effects from childhood cancer. It was nice not to worry about all the things that are going on with Mom & Dad's health. Marlene even enjoyed not worring about the divorce that she is going through.

We all needed today. Thank you God for the wonderful blessing of family and friends and just enjoying the beauty you created

Much love and blessings to everyone
